My Doctor Doesn't Know

I am particularly prone to yeast infections but the last few times I've gone to the doctor thinking I had a yeast infection, it turns out to be nothing...no STD, no infection, no nothing.  (I have had a steady and wonderful boyfriend for 2 1/2 years).  However, for about 9 months I've had persistent, non-stop thick discharge that was never characteristic of my body before.  It prevents me from getting wet and staying wet and is a real mess but doesn't smell or itch at all.

It's thick & white but not lumpy.  It sometimes changes to a really mucous-like texture for a few days and then goes back.  My doctor says he doesn't know what to tell me.  I had a terrible experience in December and I've had this problem since then in addition to my recurring yeast infections that have plagued me for over five years.

If anyone knows what else this could be, please let me know.

I've never had an STD and I have an IUD but I had recurring yeast infections before that.  However,  could it still be causing this new discharge?

Hi Erin and welcome to the board.

You don't mention your age or any lifestyle changes but since you have been to the doctor and no infection has been found, I would have to guess that your body has just made some natural changes.

Hi there,

Do you have a Mirena or Copper IUD?

The discharge you are experiencing is probably a change caused by the IUD. It will be normal discharge associated with your fertility and ovulation, etc. The mucous-like texture will be the cervical fluid that occurs around ovulation.

If you have a Mirena IUD, it's quite possible that you are also experiencing some vaginal dryness. I had a Mirena IUD and had to have it removed for this reason. Plus the IUD can make you more prone to yeast infections.
