Stopped periods @ 36

Hi,

New to this board......I am 36 and I haven't had my period since July.  I have done several at home pregnancy tests and all came back negative.  I've been rescheduled by my ob/gyn 5 times, so I finally called my gp and he sent me for blood work (a pregnancy test, a thyroid test, anemia, blood count, etc.) and a urine test.  Well, everything came back okay.  Pregnancy test was negative.  So, now what??  I'm scheduled to see a NEW ob/gyn next Friday and I'm assuming they are going to do an ultrasound......My mom stopped her periods at this age and although I have one daughter who is 5 that we are so blessed to have, I haven't shut the door on having another one.  Does anyone have any idea what MAY be going on or have you been through this before?  I am overweight, but I've always had regular periods and I just don't know what to think now.  I also have a condition called sarcoidosis and I don't know if this is effecting it.  My gp thinks the ob/gyn will be able to answer all this, but I was hoping, in the mean time, someone could give me some info.

Thanks in advance.....

Welcome to the board.

Considering your mom stopped having periods around this time, it is a strong possibility that you have entered peri-menopause and are heading to menopause.

Thanks for the info. I do in fact have trouble with ovarian cysts, I actually had one rupture last year, but I never had an irregular period from it. I will wait it out for my appt. with the ob/gyn and go from there....it is just not easy waiting....

Hey

You should ask your doctor about Pre-mature ovarian failure, many women have this and assume it is peri menepause as mentioned in an earlier message.

The faint bleeding could be ovulatory bleeding, it could be your period trying to start, etc. At this point I think you should wait and see what happens over the next few days. Other things such as PCOS or ovarian cysts can cause problems with your cycle. Stress, illness, and sudden weight gain or loss can also be culprits for delaying ovulation. And if you don't ovulate, your period doesn't arrive.
