I feel let down

A year ago I asked my primary doctor for blood work to see if my hormone levels were adequate. I have always had irregular periods, even on the pill. Since I was 20 my thyroid has been checked several times and has always been ok. So when the dr. said that my hormone levels were fine I felt comfortable because she is the one who studied this stuff, not me. Because I specifically said that I wanted my hormone levels checked I assumed that I was clear with the doctor and she would order up the right tests. I was foolish for not demanding a copy of the lab report but hindsight is 20/20. Yesterday I was at the same doctor again and I asked the nurse for a copy of the blood work. I also told the dr. that I wanted my hormone levels checked again and she gave me the referral and it had LH and some other things on there. When I got home I went over last year's lab work and looked everything up. The only thing related to menstruation that was checked was my thyroid. I was livid. The doctor is aware that my thyroid has been checked several times and I just don't understand how she could tell me that everything with my hormones was "fine" when they weren't checked. At least I now know that LH and some other things will be checked now. I still feel that between the gyn's I have seen and my primary doctor that I am being screwed over. I just want to know if everything is where it should be. Why is that so hard?

How frustrating! My experience was similar unfortunately. I went to a dozen different doctors over a 10 year span before finally figuring out that I have PCOS. It took years of worrying and years of infertility and no doctor would help me. They always did a pap smear and that was the end of it.
I finally got my hormone tests and they said everything was fine but when I looked at the results myself I saw that my testosterone was FLAGGED as being above normal!
I would recommend to anyone...look up what tests you need, asking for them specifically and then check over the results yourself. My doctors office will send the results to my home as soon as they get them (if I request).
Welcome Carey.
It is unfortunate that your doctor didn't do the test you requested.
