This month is kicking my butt!!!

I've been reading previous posts all morning.  Trying to see if anyone has/had similar symptoms... I'm 30 and have been on low dose BC pills for 2 years - never missed a pill - I'm not exact everyday, but never a more than an hour or two apart.  Since I've been on the pill I usually only get my period a few times a year. My last few were Aug '07 and July '08 and July's I think was because I was on a plane right at the start of my sugar pills.

For the past 3 months my PMS has been a bit ridiculous.  My stomach is a bottomless pit, I'm exhausted, I've had pain when ovulating (well at least I think I'm ovulating), I'm so moody and have clamed up because the thoughts that go through my head I know are WAY far out there.  I'm super sensitive for no reason.

I just started menstrating yesterday and the cramps are terrible - to the point that I feel like I'm going to vomit. My body feels weak and I get random pains in my joints and my legs feel weak.  I have a low grade fever my ankles are swelling (slightly) and discharge is brown.  I've been taking motrin (more than recommended), but I'm still feeling the cramps.  Am I just getting hammered this month because I haven't had one in so many months or should I be concerned and call my dr.  Any thoughts or suggestions are MUCH appreciated.

I would see a naturopathic doctor. You really need to have some tests done to determine what's going on.

Hi there,

I really suggest you see your doctor. You shouldn't be ovulating on the pill. I'm wondering if you have an underlying issue which has caused you to miss your period so often on the pill (it's common to miss a period here and there, but not for months at a time), and the issue has been building up to suddenly give you all these symptoms. Might be time to have a checkup with your doc and get hormone testing done, etc. Things like PCOS and endometriosis might need to be considered.
