Dry, peeling labia

Over the last few months just after my period, my vaginal lips have become very dry and start to peel. It is very uncomfortable and hurts when anything rubs against it. It is a bit like when you are peeling from a sunburn and leaves a sort of paper cut. The labia are very sore to touch and feel very chapped.
Can this be an allergic reaction? I used to get a lot of yeast infections which just kind of came and went. I was tested for basically everything two months ago and it all came back negative so I do not have an STD.
My discharge is also sort of "putty like" at the moment but not thick. It cracks if rubbed between my fingers. It's a normal color but does smell slightly different but not foul smelling.
Any suggestions? I have not changed partners or sexual activity. Thanks.

One more thing I might just add...after my very first yeast infection three years ago I began to get what the guys have, known as Smegma. I told my Gyngo and she said this was normal, just to wash everyday. No problem, however, when I get this new irritation just after my period, it tends to show up in abundances. Anyone know a correlation?
I have not changed my BC either, I have been on the same pill for 5 years now and never any problem.
Are you sure you're not still having problems with yeast infections? It could also be vaginal dryness, which could be caused by the pill you are on. It's not uncommon to have new problems crop up on the pill, even if you've been on it long term.
What do you use for period protection? Have you changed brands recently? If you use an absorbency that is too high, it will absorb any normal moisture from the vaginal area.
There are other problems that can occur too, so I think you should see your gyn when this is going on, so s/he can see what the problem is.
You could also try a Vitamin E cream, or aloe vera gel, or even a barrier cream on the area. The first two will add moisture, the barrier cream will help to reduce friction from your underwear.
