Low Grade Pap results

Hi Ladies - I received a call from my GYN's office. My pap came back low grade and they want to do another colpo.  This happened to me back in 2006, the biopsy came back normal. Then I had another Pap 6 months later which came back normal as well.  The one after that came back ASCUS, so my Dr. decided just to watch. Now the most recent pap came back with this result.  Has anyone ever had to go in for more then one colpo.?  Or dealt with anything like this.  I hope this isn't more serious then what they are telling me! She basically told me I don't need to worry..but if I were to wait 10 years and not do the check ups now, I may have to worry then. But I'm just afraid what if its worse when low grade?

Hi there,

It's actually quite common to have to do more testing. You might want to check out the HPV board:

There are plenty of women over there that have been through a lot of colpos or biopsies.

For a low grade pap result, it could simply mean some inflammation of the cervix (particularly if you had sex within a 72 hour window of your pap test, or if you have been on the pill for a long time it can cause some changes to the cervix). It could simply be a bacterial infection, which you would need to be swabbed for. As long as you keep up with regular paps, then any problems are treatable early on.
