How to choose gyno

I don't have insurance right now and haven't been to the gyno before, but feel that I should get checked out.  How should I go about finding one? Go to a clinic or to the doctors office? Thanks for the help.

Hello. Do you have a general doctor? If so, my opinion would be to ask him/her to refer you to a GYN. Explain that you've never been before & you need help choosing one. Let them know if having a male or female doctor is important to you. It is better to go to a GYN that has been recommended by another doctor than to just pick one out of the phone book.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi there,

As the other poster said, talk to your doctor. Or if you have a list of gyns that you can go to on your insurance, take the list to show your doctor and see who they recommend out of the list.

Most doctors should be able to do a gyn exam anyway, so if you are comfortable with your doctor, you might want to consider that as an option if you can do it that way.

I don't have a general doctor, so asking for a referral is not an option and I don't have insurance right now.

By all means, even if you had to pay for it, a "great" doctor is always better than going to a lesser expensive "lousy" doctor.
