Period twice per month on bc pill

Hello. I am 31 years old & have been on birth control pills (off & on...more on) since I was 18. I have tried several different pills over the years & the same thing always seems to happen. I use the pill with no problem for several months & then all of the sudden I begin to get my period twice per month. I will get it during the inactive pills & then again about 2 weeks later. It is very frustrating.

I'm currently on Estrostep FE & before that I was on Yaz. Same thing happened. Does anyone have any insight as to why this happens to me? Also, does this mean my pill is not protecting me 100%? Am I ovulating during that mid-month period?

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi there,

I'm wondering if you had irregular periods prior to going on the pill? If so, then the pill might not be able to control the problem.

Also, hormonal birth control doesn't agree with everyone, so it might just be that the pill is not suited to you. Have you tried a pill with higher hormone levels? Sometimes low hormone pills do not stabilise the uterine lining enough, particularly in women that are on the bigger size.

This does not mean that the pill isn't protecting you properly (and for your information, the pill is not 100% effective, even when taking exactly on time every day). And you shouldn't be ovulating on the pill if it is working properly.
