Pelvic and Lower Abdominal Pain

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could help me to figure out what these symptoms I am experiencing mean. First off, I am uninsured for the next five weeks. I did visit a doctor and paid cash, but the service is not the same as if I had insurance.

For the past few weeks, I was experiencing mild pelvic pain, particularly on the right side. It would come and go, and I wasn't sure if it was menstrual or not, so I didn't pay particular attention to it. About five days ago, it became unbearable, and I had a stabbing pain in that area, and also on the left side, but mostly on the right. I went to the doctor, and they ran a test and saw that I did have white blood cells in my urine, which means an infection is present. I wasn't having any of the symptoms of a urinary tract infection, such as burning during urination or urgency to urinate. I also wasn't having the symptoms of kidney infection, such as pain in the back. The doctor put me on an antibiotic, Keflex (Cephalexin) 500 MG four times a day. After two days, the pain subsided just a little bit, but three more days into it and I haven't made much more progress. I feel like the pain has spread a little into the lower abdomen and I think I feel mildly bloated. I sometimes feel like I have the chills, but I don't have a fever. Heating the area does seem to make it feel a little better. I also feel better laying down, but if I get up and walk around for a while, I feel like I want to go home and just lay down again to make the pain subside. Also, the pain seemed to get worse not during intercourse, but a few hours after. That first night, it felt like stabbing. Now it feels like constant pain in the pelvis (mostly on the right) and into the lower abdomen. And it is most likely related to the fact that I have evidence of infection. Normally, a UTI would feel much better after about three days of antibiotics, so I am doubting this is it. Does anybody know what this could be?

Thank you!

Hi there,

You should have started to notice an improvement if it was a simple infection, and I think you should consider going back to a doctor, or calling them. I'm concerned about the possibility of a pelvic infection - did the doctor do any swabs for testing?

Have you already had your appendix out? Since the pain is mostly on the right, that's what I think of first. Sometimes the pain from appendicitis doesn't stay on the right side and spreads. Or it could be a pelvic infection like the cl suggested. If it continues or gets worse I would go back to the dr. or go to the e.r. Something's obviously wrong.

hi
it is very very important to see your doctor and ask to see a gynecologist!!!!!
trust me on this!
about 6 months ago i got the same pain and i have gone through hell during that time.
it turns out i have a disease called endometriosis(im sure there is plenty of info on this web site about it or else go to webmd.com).
and i dont mean to worry you but if you have the same thing it will only get worse and worse and worse if you dont get it taken care of.
and its a long process getting diagnosed with this so dont wait till next week.
this disease has taken over my life and i dont want the same thing to happen to you.
plus taking an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen is supposed to help with the pain.
but please take care of this and DONT WAIT!
