prolapsed bladder-sorry tmi

Hi,

I'm new to this board, but perhaps I should have come here a little sooner.  I have an embarrasing problem that maybe someone can give me advice on.

I had a prolapsed uterus and bladder.  Had a hysterectomy that my doctor said would take care of both issues.  He did not do any bladder suspension with the hysterectomy.  He said I'm too young to have my bladder repaired.  I'm 39 now, was 38 at the time and 7 months post partum.  The way he explained it to me was that the uterus is like a weight pulling down on the bladder.

Well it helped for a few months.  But now 8 months after my surgery it's like I never had anything done.  My bladder actually protrudes from my vagina.  I am constantly going into the bathroom just to push it back up.  The only thing that helps is lying down.  Not good when you have a very active toddler, a busy 10 year old, and a full time job!

Anyway, I don't want to go back to the same doctor because the hysterectomy was no help.  But I don't know where to go.  Do I try a different ob/gyn?  There are other groups in town.  Or do I go to a urologist?  I really, don't want to have more surgery, I really can't afford another 6 weeks off work, but I can't live like this anymore.

Thank you if you are still reading, I know this is really long!  I really appreciate any advice that anyone could give me.

Cherie

Hi there,

I would suggest you see if you can find a urogynecologist, who will deal with both gyn issues and urological issues. If you can't find one, then I think a urologist would be a good place to start. They might be able to recommend someone that can help if the problem goes beyond their expertise.

You can get vaginal inserts which are designed to help keep things in place and provide some support. I can't remember the exact name of them right now, but if surgery isn't an option, that would be the next thing you could try. A discussion with a urologist will get you on the right path, in any case!

Good luck!
