ways to delay your period?

I'm going to be traveling to Texas the end of the month to visit my boyfriend before he deploys to Iraq. I'm also due to start my period on the day my flight there is scheduled and I would really prefer not being on my period while we're together, for various reasons. I know with a birth control packet you can alter your period slightly (though not guaranteed) but I'm not on the pill. I've been doing some research and found a thing called Norethisterone Tablets to delay your period but I'm not sure how to go about getting them. Does anyone know anything about these tablets or any other natural ways to delay your period? Thanks!

From what I gather Norethisterone is just progestin which is synthetic progesterone. This is basically the only way to delay your period. Birth control pills would essentially do the same thing. You can also take a natural source of progesterone which is an herb called wild yam. I have taken it many times in the past 7 years.

Hi there,

Aside from the pill or other synthetic progesterone, there isn't anything you can do. At best, you can reduce the flow by taking 800mg ibuprofen every 6 hours. It does work for some women.

Alternatively, you might consider the Instead Cup, which is a menstrual cup. Unlike other brands, this can be used during sex as well, so it should contain any fluids while necessary!

I've got it taken care of (at least my best bet, my gyno is giving me a sample of BC to try and delay it) but what is this Instead Cup for future reference? Where do you get it? Thanks!

Hi again.

Information about the Instead cup is available at the following link:

http://www.softcup.com/

If you google it, you should be able to find companies that sell it. From what I understand, they take a bit to get the hang of, but because they are reusable, they are very good for the environment, and the initial outlay is worth it, compared to the cost of buying tampons or pads every month.

There are other brands of menstrual cups out there, but the Instead cup is the only one shaped in such a way that it can be used during intercourse.
