Hello! Glad I found this site. :) I'm 33 years old, and just started the birth control pill, Loestrin. Actually, I haven't used it yet...I just got a prescription for it last week.
I am on the pill now due to irregular periods. My next period is due December 16th, but I think it will come earlier then that, because I'm starting to have bad cramps now. The thing is, I am going on vacation next month, from January 6th-10th. I do NOT want to have my period during this time. If my period comes in the next couple of days, it will be due again the week I am on vacation. I would start using the pill this Sunday....and my doctor said in order to skip my period next month, to take the 21 regular pills, then skip the non active pills and just start immediately on a new pack. But my question is....if I do that, then I will be due to start a new pack on January 3rd. Is that really enough time to skip my period in January?
I'm sorry if this sounds confusing, but I AM confused. :) Thanks in advance for the help!
Sarah

Hi there,
The whole idea of skipping the placebo pills is that you shouldn't get your period. So you would take the 21 active pills and head straight into a new pack, which should delay your period until you are ready to have it. I do advise, however, that after you are back from vacation that you take the inactive pills and have your period. Many women cannot skip their period for too long without breakthrough bleeding, and since you are just starting on this particular pill you might be more prone to side effects.
Good luck!
