I've noticed lately that my hair is thinning. Does this mean that I might need to up my meds? I see my Endo next week. I'm concerned about my hair thinning. Can anyone recommend a good hair care line ? I'm currently using Nioxin.

Thanks

Sue

H Sue - hair loss can either mean that your undermedicated or that you are feeling the side effects of too much Synthroid. My new endo just told me that it is most likely a case of undertreatment but hair loss *is* listed as a side effect of Synthroid. You can take GLA or Evening Primrose Oil(1000 mg 2x a day) and L-Lysine (500 mg once a day) to help with stop the hair loss and thinning. As far as over the counter hair products, I'm just not familiar with them at all. I can check some out for you and if I find anything, I'll post it here. Maybe someone reading this might have had some experience with them and can let you know! Cathy :)

Hi Sue! I had a big problem with hair loss once I started my hypo meds. It's one of the side effects. It started out with just my hair thinning out, but then I noticed I had a couple of bald spots and I was losing eyelashes! It had turned into alopecia areata. I went to see a dermatologist who told me that AA and Thyroid problems kinda go hand in hand. He said that treatments and shampoos won't help, because those are more for genetic hair loss, not medicine related loss.
