Is it recommended for hypothyroid patients to take vitamins???  Nothing has ever been mentioned to me however I have seen a lot of posts on here regarding all the vitamins everyone is taking.

So is there anything a person with HYPO/HASHIMOTOS shouldn't take????

Well, you don't want to take anything with iodine in it, like a multivitamin that includes minerals and might contain iodine. It would be right on the bottle. Iodine can cause a bad reaction in some people with hypothyroidism. I can't think of anything else offhand ........ I take a bunch of stuff and have never noticed or read of any problems with them. You probably know not to take soy protein or eat soy products. You can safely have 1 serving a day but I don't even bother with that. Soy contains an anti-thyroid ingredient that is included in all soy products except those processed with heat, which destroys the anti-thyroid compound. Shaklee sells a soy protein that is heat processed but I don't even bother with that. Maybe at some point, if I feel I need it, but not right now. And I don't know if you saw my post about tea ........ but all tea contains floride; it's a natural ingredient. I was drinking TONS of green tea and heard it might not be good for people who are hypothyroid and researched it to find out that it's the floride. It blocks iodine receptor cells in the thyroid, ironically enough!! :) So now I'm drinking flavored water, waiting to find out what could possibly be wrong with that!!! Back to the vitamins, though, there are more that could be a problem if you are hyperthyroid because many act as stimulants. Cathy :)
