Thyroid & Insulin?

Does anyone know about a thyroid & insulin link. Some of the ladies have said their docs say "cut out carbs" when it comes to their diets for hypothyroidism. I'm wondering that they might not just be saying that because of the low-carb diet craze. It makes sense that if you are not manufacturing enough insulin b/c your metabolism is slowed due to thyroid disease--its all endocrine system, thyroid, pancreas/insulin--then no wonder you gain weight so rapidly when you are hypothyroid. Your body can't produce enough insulin to break down the carbs and then your body holds onto them in the form of FAT!
One thing is for sure, whole grains--healthy carbs is a definate!
Also what do you all think about incorporating chromium picolinate into your supplement regimins? Chromium is necessary in the metabolism of carbs, proteins & FAT by assisting insulin. 200mcg of chromium picolinate is what most of the tabs are made of.
So do you think there's a thyroid/pancreas connection. That makes a lot of sense to me.
I have experience working with diabetic children and my husband is hypoglycemic--low blood sugar, and I've had problems with low blood sugar--I'm probably going pre-diabetic. But if your metabolism is slowed, it makes sense that your body would store the carbs.
Also if your metabolism is slowed, due to health issues or even starvation issues--say you are not ingesting enough calories. (honest if you are inactive you should be eating at least 1200, if you are slightly active you have to eat more to make up for it, and if you are very active, like moderate aerobic excercising--you need even more, like even up to 1800+ cals a day!) Your body will not loose weight. Even if you only eat SALAD! So, maybe helping the body metabolise the carbs you could have more success with loosing weight. Especially not gaining more--if you are utilizing what you are intaking then you can't gain.
Hmm.. just food for thought. I have to get back to school or a new job--I have too much time on my hands! I'm having too many brainstorms! ha ha.
Thank you ladies, I appreciate each of you. And I applaud you all for finding your path to wellness. Many of you are an inspiration for me and my learning about my thyroid disorder. --lisa
