Hypo and memory issues?

Help! I am hypo, that I know, and have been on my meds for about 3 weeks now. I am having some annoying memory problems. Twice in the past month I have left my ATM card in the machine, causing it to be shredded once and tomorrow I can pick it up from the place where I left it (after BEGGING the manager and explaining my memory situation). Tonight, I went out and picked up a few necessary items and stopped at Walgreens where I promptly left after paying without my purchase, causing me to return to the store, red faced and annoyed.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there anything I can take to help this? Is this something I should discuss with my doc when I see him in another month (he is on vacation now, so I can't talk to him right now).

Help!

Hi Leigh Anne - many of us can commiserate. It will get better as you take the medicaton longer - it may take up to three months. In the meantime, make friends with the post it note!! :) And when you're out, consiously watch what you're doing. Make lists of everything and put TAKE YOUR ATM CARD on the list! Don't assume you will remember anything. I still have to repreat things to myself to help me remember the stupidest things, like bringing toilet paper from the upstairs bathroom to the downstairs bathroom. I'll repeat that to myself however long it takes until I go from upstairs to downstairs!! I know that doesn't soucnd encouraging but I'm waiting for my higher dose of medication to fully kick in. Lists, Notes, Repeat things, Pay attention to what you're doing! Those are my suggestions. Hang in there! It WILL get better. Cathy :)

Hi:

I asked a similar question a few days back, "afraid I'll loose my job," and Cathy posted a reply that included some good tips about diet and exercise; a lot of people on this board have worked with supplements, too. You might also make sure you're not anemic as well... that can really aggrivate the memory problem/ fatigue side. There's also a kind of anemia that is a B-12 defeciency (I forget what it's called, but it's listed as a related disorder) that really impacts memory.

For me, the memory problem part of it is still the part that is making me feel the worst... I'm constantly apologizing at work. It's such a drag. I have actually started to explain to my coworkers that I have a thyroid issue that is not yet responding to the medication.

Hang in there,

Dee.

Does it get better even if your memory loss is long-standing? I was undertreated for my hypo (going to Endo on Wednesday, yayayay) and will demand that I go on that new protocol since synthroid alone has never worked.... I am concerned about my memory tho. I joke about it but it is embarrassing. EEK!
