If one has a long standing hypothyroidism problem- and it has affected memory, etc.. (yuk) Even tho one is on synthroid, will it improve if one goes on the new combo T3/T4 treatment? Even when my levels are normal I have serious brain fog and memory problems. I do have a Dr.'s appt Wednesday to DEMAND some answers! But I don't know if my brain fog/memory loss is permanent...? I am dumber than dumb! I need to clear out the cobwebs in my head and hope it improves but I also want the truth... :-)

Thanks!

Hi:

When I worked with people with dementia, thyroid imbalance, even if life-long and untreated, was always listed as "reversable." In other words, if you're medication's working, your brain fog & ST memory trouble should go away... So peraps a new thyroid medication will help. Are you B-12 deficient? That can impact memory, too...

Good luck!

Hi Sherry - as far as I know, it's not a permanent condition. It's not as if your htyroid is causing brain damage or anything serious like that. I don't know exactly how it works to fog up our memory and cause so much trouble. That's worth looking into. But I do know that the right medication relaly improves the situation. And perhaps that will happen for you when you begin taking T3/T4. Some people just can't get "normal" without both so perhaps that will be the answer for you. In the meantime, I really feel for you. it's a hrad thing to deal with. Let us know how your appointment goes! Cathy :)
