I was doing some reading about weight gain with anti-depressants and I came across

an article stating that many people have been able to lose weight by taking an Omega 3

supplement and cutting back on carbs. (Cutting out sugar and such, not doing ATkins)

It seems there are alot of benefits to taking Omega 3. Other than helping with weight loss

the one I found most interesting was that it helps with auto-immune diseases.

I'm not an expert so please don't take my word for it, I just thought it was interesting and something that might be worth checking in to.

Hi Shelly - There are a lot of benefits to taking omega-3 and other essential fatty acids (EFA's) They are critical to many functions in our body and one of them is in aiding our metabolism. They also protect our heat , lower blood pressure and can decrease the chance of blood clots. They can even loer the risk of colon, breast and prostrate cancers. They also act as an anti-inflamatory, and have helped with arthritis pain. They also have antioxident properties! Here's a great link for you - even though they're selling a supplement, the info is still good:http://www.holistichealthtools.com/essential-fats.html

Another good resource is Dr. Perricone's book, The Perricone Prescription. Cathy :)

Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid, made from fish oils.

I copied this from the swansons site:

"Fat that's good for you? It's true! The omega-3 fatty acids do a lot to keep you healthy, providing valuable nutritional support for cardiovascular and mental health as well as immune system function"

You should be able to find them where you get vitamins, although I

haven't checked my local stores yet. I did see them on the swansons

vitamins website. They have one that is only $7.12 for 100. Check

out the site, they give you lots of info, they even list the nutrition

label so you can see exactly whats in them.

Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid. You can find it in salmon, sardines and other cold water fish, in almonds and walnuts, avocados. These are called the good fats that our body needs but doesn't make itself. There are also Omega-6 fatty acids that come from flax seed oil and evening primrose oil (GLA). You can eat the foods that contain these oils and/or you can take a supplement. Check out the site I listed in the other post, I think it gives the list of foods. To buy a good supplement, check out a health food store, or store that sells vitamins. You want 1000 milligrams of each in your supplement and you can find some that contain all the EFA's in one pill. The gold standard of EFA's is Dr. Udo's: http://www.udoerasmus.com/, although I just buy mine at my local grocery store because it has a great organic foods section. Cathy :)
