Here's some interesting info from The Thyroid Solution:
"In hyperthyroidism, excessive production of free radicals overwhelming the cells' ability to neutralize then has been implicated in the progression of degenerative diseases. Research has shown that, when the thyroid is overacitve, the consumption of oxygen is higher, leading to an accumulatin of oxygented compunds taht are toxic to cells. This accumulaton has been called oxidative stress. To help cells clear these damaging oxidents, antioxident supplements such as Vitamins C (250 to 1000 mg)and E (200 to 800 IU)and mixed carotenoids (Vitamin A - 1000 to 5000 IU) might prevent cellular damage in many parts of the body, including muscles.
Patients with an overacitve thyroid need to increase their consumption of vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) and B1 (thiamine). Pyridoxine is important in the conversion of trytophan to serotonin in the brain. It is part of a B-complex and may be wquite helpful in treasting patients with an overactive thyroid and for those who have regained normal thyroid levels with treatment. (Gina, I take a separate supplemnet of B-6, 250 mg because that was recommended to reduce bloating, along with some other vitamins. But for his purposes, he recommends 25 to 50 mg)"
