Hypothyroid and Hives??

I was just wondering if any of you have experienced problems with getting hives rashes? Several days ago I got hives for absolutely no reason.. I used to get them on my arms right before dance competitions when I was much younger but that was just from nerves and they went right away. I talked to a friend of mine who is an EMT and he said that he had heard that being hypothyroid sometimes led to chronic breakouts of hives due to chemical imbalances in the body. Let me know if any of you have ever had this happen!
Thanks,
Megan

"One of the ladies posted about her having a bad case of hives and she was concerned maybe her thyroid had something to do about it. Mary Shoman's newest newsletter has some info on it. Here it is,

Hives Linked to Autoimmune Thyroid Disease
Research reported on in the journal Dermatology found that the frequency of thyroid autoantibodies is significantly higher in patients with chronic urticaria (hives) than in healthy controls. In the study, all the patients with thyroid autoantibodies had so-called "normal" test results. Researchers concluded that there is a significant association between chronic urticaria and thyroid autoimmunity, but only the thyroid antibody tests are relevant in patients with chronic urticaria, versus thyroid function tests."
If not, I can always look again for you. Cathy :)
