ok- so when i first saw my endo i asked him if i could have been hypo all these yrs (since 16 diagnosed with depression, put on prozac gained 60 lbs.) he said doubtful cuz my TSH was only 10 when i was dx last june. he said most likely, if i had it since 16 he would expect my TSH to be much higher- since the disease just progresses. ok- now we know that i am hypo due to Hash. he said something about the antithyroid antibodies we produce should be less than 35 and mine were greater than 1000. here is my question: i am now wondering if i could have had a normal TSH but high levels of antibodies when i was 16 and still had the symptoms of hypo- depression, weight gain? i am still not convinced that i have not been suffering from this all these yrs.. undiagnosed, or misdiagnosed?

Yes, I think that's very possible. That's why running only the TSH test is so unreliable for many people. The other thing is that it might have progressed very slowly for you. Just because you have hashi's doesn't mean you have to become hypothyroid. Everyone reacts differently to these things. Everyone reacts differently to the decrease in thryoid hormone so that a 10 for you can leave you feel awful with tons of symptoms but a 10 for someone else feels just fine. But I do think you may be right. If you feel that this is something you've had since then, then I would trust that feeling. Cathy :)
