Should i worry about baby's thyroid?

he seems to get beet red when he is hot. but this happens even indoors. i guess that is why i am worrying. when everyone else seems fine with the temp. he is beet red. and in very little clothing. at home, we keep it pretty cool in the house... so he is fine, but at other people's homes and stuff, he get's like this. i am beginning to worry about his thyroid since thyroid conditions run rampant in our family and heat intolerance is a sign of overactive thyroid. also, he is on some meds for wheezing, that i think may be contributing to this (altho, i cannot seem to find a single piece of research on it) he is on xoponez from the family of albuterol and i think this does something to the cardio system and dialates the vessles, prob. making him more prone to the flushing. i am hoping, at his appt. on tue. the dr, will let me stop the xoponex, cuz since he started the zyrtec he is not wheezing anymore!

Not sure if this helps but my ped. told me that all infants have their thyroids checked at birth. When I was recently diagnosed, I let my children's ped. know this and he told me that. My children don't exhibit any symptoms anyway. But obviously, that doesn't mean they can't or won't develop a thyroid condition.
It makes sense that your son could be "flush" while on the wheezing meds. Of course, you should bring this up to your son's ped.
Let us know what your ped. says.

I agree. I think, but am not 100% that this is one of the tests that they do with the PKU testing. I realized when I switched pediatricians that my old practice didn't call for the results. I tried to but couldn't b/c I wasn't a dr....so I requested in writing that my new practice did this for me.
Every state checks TSH levels during newborn screenings.

At initial screenings his TSH was 255 so we did have to go to the doctor.

I'm glad the doctors felt your wee one is fine.
