Hi everyone....

Im posting this for my mother. She doesnt have a computer and I tell her I typically turn to these forums as outlet for this kind of stuff....

My mother just got diagnosed with having a thyroid condition (not sure of the medical term..sorry) and was put on Synthroid. She also has been on anti-depressants for awhile. The doctor put her back on Wellbutrin XR (i believe its XR) anyway she has been on both for a month and a half now.

she is very cranky and irritable. She says she could argue with a fence post or piece of paper if given the chance! ha ha Anyway the point of this is that she is very cranky and is not happy. This all started with these two medicines...has anyone else experienced this by taking synthroid with a anti-depressant or wellbutrin?

is this a symptom to this? just curious.....thank you!

this is a very good question. there is some research out there that tells us that taking an antidepressant can aggravate a thyroid condition. is your mother is hypothyroid many of the symptoms of hypo and depression are similar. hypothyroid mimmicks the symptoms of depression and she may not need the antidepressant (if that is what she is taking it for.) in my case, i am on an antidepressant for anxiety symptoms but i have recently gone to cutting mine in half (the past few days) and i seem to feel a little better (which means i am now taking 1/2 the dose of the antidepressant than before.) all i can tell you is yes, the AD can aggravate a thyroid condition and make it worse. it might be a good idea for her to discuss her symptoms with her dr. and be sure she let's the dr. know she is on an AD and synthroid.
