I was just wondering how do I lse weight with hypothyroidism? Am I allowed to take any diatery suplements? Even though I have been on synthroid for about 6 months I still feel like I have no energy I am scheduled for another blood check on sep.2 I hav gained over20 pounds this year alone. I had finally lost 12 pounds and have been able to keep it off for 4 months but just gained it all right back with in 2 weeks I am getting so depressed and would like to know other than the obvious(excercise, eart right) what else can I do.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't take any weight loss supplements with the synthroid. I think anything like that is just not good for your body. Don't get me wrong, I took many of them for many a year with little success. I actually wonder if the last supplement did some damage to my thyroid and caused this problem...but I'm sure there's no way to know for sure.

I was diagnosed about the same time as you, and I know what you are feeling. I had lost about 30 pounds 2 years ago and have since gained that and more back. I get depressed and discouraged too.

I'm sure there are others here who have lived with this disease longer and who can give you better advice but I think eating right and exercise are the safest ways to lose weight and stay healthy.

I hope this doesn't come off "preachy"...I didn't mean it too, but after many years of diet pills, etc...I think I'm starting to really see the dangers!

There are some posts here about ways to boost your metabolism naturally, and there are lots of books...perhaps making an appointment with a nutritionist would also help.

Try to keep your chin up and do the best you can...it will get better!

i too am wishing for it right about now. the hard part is when you do eat right and exercise and it still doesn't come off! now, i admit, that isn't me- *right now* but it has been me in the past. so i understand the frustration. right now i feel like a cow... altho, someone asked me today if i had *LOST* weight over the sumemr. it was funny, cuz i just went shopping for a bigger size! go figure.

Hi:

I've gained weight since the diagnosis, and I'm a weight watchers lifetime member, and I've been fighting all the way! Nothing really works right now. I think it's about maintaining, not losing right now... until the thyroid thing is settled. I'm drinking LOTS OF WATER; following the diet I know used to work, and I joined the "never say diet" i-village message board.

Good luck

Dee.

Boy-oh-boy...I know exactly what you mean!

I haven't been eating right or exercising because I have so little energy. My work schedule for the last several years has been a major reason why I don't have the time or the energy for much of anything. But I am starting a new job next week, and I'm hoping I'll have more time for "me".

My fiance has been a wonderful help...he keeps suggesting we buy a membership at a health club and go there together! (What a guy!) I have lots of issues with this because I have a hard time paying for something I can do for free (but don't). The paying aspect never made me go before, why would it now??

Oh well, maybe when my work life is a little more settled, I will re-think that.

I'm so tired of being fat. I worked hard to lose all that weight two years ago...and now I'm bigger than I've ever been. When I lost the weight, I threw out my "big" clothes, swearing I would never wear them again...now nothing fits. I'm spending a fortune on new clothes that fit and look decent for work (I have to look professional).

I guess we just have to keep our spirits up as best we can, and know ultimately that it is in our best interests to eat healthy and exercise...even if we don't lose weight, it will make us feel better!

We can get support from everyone here! We're all in the same boat!
