I decided to introduce myself a little more and decribe my symptoms for those of you considering RAI. I am working on finishing an advance degree and am having trouble working without becoming very tired and being unable to concentrate. I am also looking for a job. I think perhaps this stress brought out the hypothyroid which is likely genetic, my GM and DA had it. My GM had RAI in the 50's and is now in her late 70s and besisdes being overbearing is fine LOL. My DA had medication to adjust her levels. I had been losing weight and appetite as my DM pointed out repeatedly and had been tried in waves, olus hot flashes for sometime. I went to the Dr. after two weeks of dizzy spells and shaking, by then I had a goiter that appeared the day I went to the doctor. Blood tests were ordered an I went to nuclear medicine for an uptake test, which was 81%. I just had RAI and it worsened my symptoms, which the Dr. said it would a side effect. This morning I was shaking so much, I felt like I was having a seisure. I will see my Dr. again tomorrow. The nuclear medicine people said the side effects could last up to 3 weeks. That is to long to have a pounding heart and shaking even while taking a beta-blocker. My neck was also swollen, goiter enlarged for four days after RAI, but it is down
today.
today.
Anyway this message is getting long so I will sign off.

You know- I did the stupid uptake test. I noticed since taking the iodine (on thursday a.m.) my neck feels terrible. Yesterday it felt like it was about to pop. I noticed my breathing was a little off too, perhaps my thyroid swelling up? It's still achey today.
I am sweating a lot more and more irritable. ha! if thats possible!!
Anyway- after my uptake they said I have graves disease...offered to do the radioactive iodine to take care of it. I refused...I want to talk to my endo first. Just that little bit made my neck feel terrible, I can't imagine the way it will feel if I go through with the "actual" radiation.
Let me know when it feels better. I am curious since like I said, I have to decide on something soon.
Thanks!
