I want to throw out some strategies and ideas for losing weight, putting together a weight loss program, exercising, putting together an exercise program and offering each other support throughout the process. I'll post the info in our Diet & Fitness folder and I hope that you'll join in with questions and goals, difficulties you've encountered in the past, and what works for you! If we start something like this in an organized way, it won't be long before you start to lose pounds and inches. I'm serious. And there's nothing more motivating than success. It takes determination, motivation and consistency. It has to be a priority for you each and every day. But when it becomes that, it evolves into a series of lifestyle changes that can help you more than you can see. You will be healthier overall - not just look better.
I have struggled with this for the past two years since I've been diagnosed and for the two years before that when I was gaining and then not losing, among other unpleasant hypo symptoms! :) That's what drove me to these boards to begin with. I found the Kathy Smith board and described my workout program and eating habits and asked her what she thought could be the problem. She told me to have my thyroid checked!! I didn't have insurance at the time but as soon as I did, I went for a complete physical and asked the NP to check my thyroid. She assured me that I wasn't hypo and told me that perhaps I had a "fat gene"!! This, from a health care provider.
Well, two years later, many trials later, 3 doctors later, I've lost 25 pounds and close to 30 inches. I went from a size 12/14 to a size 8. And it was a long road. Not always easy but also full of many successes. I know what it takes to lose weight. And the support of a group of women who are going through the same thing helps more than you can imagine. I know I wouldn't have been able to stick with it if it hadn't been for that board. And I know we can do the same thing for each other if you want to. It starts with making the committment to doing whatever it takes for however long it takes. I know it sounds kind of harsh but we've come to believe that everything can be done in 6 weeks time and that's just not true!! It starts with that decision. So, who's in?? Cathy :)
