Test results after 6wks on meds

I have a dr. appt. on Monday to go over my test results after being on Levoxyl for 6 weeks. I've been taking 50 mcg, which seemed like a low dose, but is how my dr. likes to do things. Start low and work up if necessary. My question is, can I expect him to increase the dose if my TSH is 'normal' even if it's higher than where I'd like it to be? Ideally, I'd like to be around a 1 to 1.5 at most as that's where I know I feel good. (had a bout with hyper after my first baby that went away after 6mo. This baby, I went hypo instead).

I'm really concerned that I'll come back in the 3-4 range and because it's a normal value even though I know I still don't feel well at all that he won't increase my meds. In your experience how do your dr.s react to test levels? Do they make changes if things are in the normal range but not optimal? Just want to know what to expect and what to fight for if necessary and appropriate.

TIA,

Kelly

Hi Kelly - I've found that every doctor that I've dealt with on this - except my new one -paid attention to the numbers and not to how I felt. That's why I kept searching for a new doctor. I wanted to find someone who would pay attention to me and raise my medication when I needed it. It's been my experience that each of the doctors had a comfort level that they weren't going to cross. And I was the one who suffered because of it. And so did my son, who is also hypo. (He's 15.)

So I guess the answer to that question is that you really won't know until you talk to your doctor about it. Ask him how he feels about that kind of situation. Maybe if he knows how you feel in advance, he might be more open-minded if and when it comes up. Or you might be pleasantly surprised to find out he agrees with you and will continue to raise your medication to get you to that normal range of 1.0 to 2.0. It makes all the difference and I believe it's worth fighting for if you have to. Cathy :)
