Hi all. I'm new here. I'm 22 from TN and earlier this summer my dr said I had thyroid problems, so he put me on this medicine to take and try out. I haven't had a period in a while so I had an appointment today to see my dr. He said he wasn't surprised I had irregular periods with my thyroids, so now I have to take the medicine till this lifetime is over. My dr said I was underactive in the harmones. Will everything with me stay the same?

I guess I'm wondering if I still can have kids someday cause I definietly want a big family someday. Thanks and feel free to E-mail me. XOXO.

Hi. I'm definietly not ready for babies now (I don't even have a boyfriend at the moment) but for someday when I do want to settle down and I find Mr. Right :) Well, basically only thing I really know about is my weight and irregular periods and then recently none at all. I'm not sure the name of the medicine, but I can look later and see what it is. Do you know when (an approximant) time I'll start having them again? I still got all the crampy feelings around the times I was supposed to have periods but nothing ever happened. Just wondering, if the thyroid isn't working right for some reason in the future (I think as long as I stay on my medicine I will be okay with that) and I do decide to get pregnant what would happen with that? Heh heh. Oh and thanks for the welcome and the reply. :) XOXO.

Hi...

I'm hypothyroid (I was diagnosed when I was trying to conceive 2 years ago) and I just had a baby 6 months ago. You can still get pregnant and have a baby and even breastfeed if you want to as long as your thyroid is under control. If you have to take thyroid medicine to keep it under control, that's fine, in fact you will need to take it throughout the pregnancy. The only difference is they will have to monitor your TSH, T4 and T3 levels more closely when you are pregnant as they will flucuate more due to the demands of the baby on your body. I was checked about every 5-6 weeks, and my endo changed my medication amounts a few times during my pregnancy. Afterwards, they will monitor you closely again for a little while until your TSH,etc. levels stabilize.

Take care,

Rebecca

Ah. Doesn't sound too bad. Of course I'm only 22 and definietly not ready for any babies now. Heh heh. But I was just curious as to how it was and everything with having thyroids and whatnot. Thanks for replying and congrat's on your little baby. :) XOXO.

Hi there Crownotangelgrl,

As far as when will your period come back, it's kinda hard to say, the medicine takes 6 weeks to really be in your system so it could be back to normal in the next 6 weeks or it could take longer, as the medicine may treat or clear up other symptoms and your doseage may have to be up-ed before it fixes the period problem. I stared meds 6 weeks ago and not untill starting them didn't I have a problem with my period, it used to like clock work, I got it on the first of every month and this month it was two weeks late so go figure. I guess what I'm saying is that all of our bodies react differently so you will knida just have to wait and see what happens. good luck.

Thanks Michelle. :) I was just wondering a general timeframe to be expecting. My dr wants to see me again four-six weeks so maybe he'll see then or something like that how the medicine seems to be working. :) With mine they've always been irregular and flipflopping with what's going to happen. Hopefully this medicine will help that too. XOXO.
