Endo Visit

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to update you all on the results of my visit to the endo.

I went to see her Friday afternoon. She said that all of my thyroid

tests were well within normal and I showed no thyroid anti-bodies.

However, I have an elevated insulin level. My fasting blood sugar is normal,

which is probably why the family dr didn't think anything of it. But my fasting

insulin was around 135. Next I have to go for a glucose tolerence test and that

will determine if I need medication now or if I can try diet and excercise for a few

months. If that works, I won't need the meds.

So, it wasn't my thyroid afterall, but atleast I finally got some answers!

And I wasn't told that I am depressed!

I guess now I need to find a great board like this for diabetes!

Hi Shelly - great news!! Well, it's not great news that you have an elevated insulin level but it is great that you are finally finding out the cause of your symptoms. Is it diabetes that the test identifies or is it also hypoglycemia? I'm just wondering because I don't know!! We'll miss you here so come back and visit every now and then. Your new board is getting a great addition! hugs, Cathy :)

HI Cathy,

The test that I have to get done will determine whether or not I am diabetic.

Apparently from what I have read, if my results are under 140, that's good,

140-199 means the pre-diabetes stage and anything over 200 is definite diabetes.

So the plan is to see what my test show, then if I am under 140, she will let me try

to get my insulin under control w/ diet and excercise before starting meds. If its between 140-199 she may start meds (depending on where it falls) and if its over

200 - definitely meds. There is a med called glucophage that helps regulate insulin

levels, so that will be the one that I take - if I need to.

I'm going to miss you guys and I will stop back now and then to see how everyone

is doing.

Shelly

Glad you got a diagnosis--I think half of the time that is the biggest stress an cause for some of the symptoms!
