I'm reposting this since it was in a place where it may get missed.

I have been on Synthroid for three years. Last year my dosage was increased to 75MCG.
The results were noticeable. I started losing weight and I wasn't so tired. Aug. 23rd
my Pharmacist switched me to the generic LEVOTHROXIN. In three weeks I have put on 4 lbs
and feeling tired. I'm making an appointment with my Dr. and will have to pay for more blood tests. Has anyone else experienced these changes with the generic brand?

Hi and welcome! I don't know if anyone nas had your specific reaction to the new genenric synthroid but ... there are definite problems with the new generics, as you can see. There is no consistency from pill to pill and the dose may not be as accurate as the brand name medication. Pharmacists are also allowed to switch you without your doctor's ok, so just have your doctor call the pharmacist for a new prescription and to let them know that they are not to give you generics in the future. I hope you're feeling better soon and don't have a problem getting switched back!

(Thanks for reposting this, Calley. I know I missed this one!) Cathy :)

Hi Calley,

This is Babs ~ yes the very same thing happened to me. I was started on levoxyl and then three months into it - my mail order script sent me synthroid instead. Same dosage, however it did not work well for me. So with the help of my Dr. a new script for levoxyl was started again. I have come to find out that the meds you start out with are the ones that will serve you best. Please keep your Dr. informed, you know your body best! Please let me know how you make out.

with the levothyroxin I started having chest pain and other related symptoms so my dr lowered my dose and put me back on levoxyl, and I asked the dr put no substitutes on the prescription, because the pharmacy subs so the meds aren't expensive for you but sometimes the generic ones don't help like the regular meds. Hope that works for you and hang in there, prayers and thoughts....
