Are there lymph nodes or something in the back of your neck? I feel a little lump about 2 inches left of my spine (in my neck) just below the corner of my hair line. (not by my ear) It doesn't hurt I just noticed it in the shower. It's about the size of a marble, but deep in my skin, not on the surface. It's like I can only feel the top rounded part of a marble, but not the whole thing.
Thanks everyone! your patience and answers are GREATLY appreciated!! I think my husband is sick of me saying ..."whats this?" "is this b/c of my thyroid?"

Hi April - I know what you mean!! People think I'm nuts because I'm always on the lookout for thyroid conditions!!! :) Anyway, nodules are usually on your thyroid which is on the front of your neck. What you have might be a muscle knot or something like that. You can ask your doctor about it but he or she probably won't know!! LOL! Three weeks ago, I got an inpingement of the bursa, which is a little sack that sits on top of your shoulder to protect the joint. The rotator cuff is right under there. Somehow, by working out, and ignoring building pain, I got to a place where I couldn't even lift my arm!! It hurt so much. I went to my doctor and she said I had pinched a nerve. She sent me for an x-ray! X-rays don't show nerves, just bones. Geesh!! They take the xray because the tech told me that at least they can see how much space there is between the joint, which will tell them how great the inflammation is! Totally unneccessary because I KNEW how great it was. I couldn't even raise my arm and could barely get dressed. When the pain subsided to where I could take a shower and get dressed, I went to my chiropractor who told me what the problem really was. I told my doctor about it in a later conversation and all she said was, "oh"!! LOL! So, that's a long story to say that perhaps you might want to find a good chiropractor to go to to have it looked at. I have rheumatoid arthritis in my neck right where it meets my spine. It's related to my thyroid, of course. And was so painful when I was undiagnosed, that I actually found the chiro then to do something about it. A few months later, I was diagnosed and after 3 months of medication, and treatment from the chiro, I barely felt it. I can always tell when my TSH is rising because I get the pain back in that area. So sorry to go on so long!! :) Maybe a chiro can help!! Cathy :)
