Hey guys I thought I remembered someone posting something about canker sores a while ago. I ask because I have a sore on the side of my tounge it's pretty big, about a half inch in diameter. It's like a hole with a white ring around it. I have had it since the middle of July, does this sound familar to anyone? I do go see the ear nose and throat doctor about it tomorrow, but I was just wondering if anyone knew if this was at all thryoid related?

Thanks, hope everyone had a good weekend!

I get a bunch of weird mouth related things all the time. My dental assisant and dentist didn't think it was thyroid related but I think it is. I remember that post that you mentioned but haven't found it! Let us know if you find anything out at your appointment! Cathy :)

It was me. I used to get them every three months without fail and they never go away. They once stayed 9 weeks. I read several articles that said that the canker sores on the tongue were usually related to yeast. So I called tha doctor and told her I needed a prescription for diflucan. Diflucan is usually used for vaginal yeast infections only its a pill you take once and you don't need to deal with creams and such. I figured that since it wasn't a vaginal infection the diflucan might work. The canker sore was gone in 48 hours. The next time I started to get one, I started to take acidophilus at every meal and it went away. Now I have been canker sore free for four months. As for the thyroid connection, with the thyroid you might have a lower body temperature. With a lower body temp, you are more prone to yeast infections. The other thing I have heard is that sometimes the canker sores on the tongue could be the result of liver problems. That a use of liver-rite might work and then taking herbs to support the liver would help to keep them away. I haven't looked into that since the yeast meds worked. Very little is written anywhere about canker sores on the tongue. I went to the primary care doctor who sent me to the ENT, and the dentist and they both gave me mouth rinses. Neither worked. And as you probably know, you use your tongue, eating and talking, which irritates it everytime it hits your teeth. It actually changed the way I talked, I had people ask if I had hearing trouble because of the way I avoided using my tongue to talk. Good luck with the ENT, and you can ask about the DIFLUCAN. Mary

Yeah.. the ENT was pretty useless, he said that I probobly bit it or I had dental work that had irritated it. But I did neither, so anyway he wanted to remove it surgically but I said "no" so he gave me an oral paste to put on it, when I asked for an antibiotic he said it wouldn't help, anyway so if this paste doesn't have any effect I have to back in a couple of weeks and have it cut out of my tounge and then my tounge stitched up!!AAaHHH So lets pray that this cream works!

Thanks for the input ladies,

Michelle

P.S

I'll let you know how the paste is working
