Hi Everyone. I have been looking for a board like this for several months now. Glad to find you. I was diagnosed Hypo about 10 months ago, and am finally in what they consider a normal range, but I still don't feel right. Go figure. Until 10 months ago, I was able to eat whatever I wanted and NEVER gained weight (no groaning)....now I just walk by the food and I gain weight. This is such a struggle and very depressing. Is this a normal "side effect" of hypo?
Looking forward to getting to know you all.
Teresa

I was diagnosed probably about the same time as you were, in December of 2003. It's been a learning process and I've learned more from the group here than anywhere!
What you are experiencing with the weight gain is indeed a normal symptom of hypothyroid. As your body adjusts to the medication, it will stabilize. While we all know weight loss is hard, I believe, in general it is harder for us. You just have to eat right and exercise and follow your doctors advice...to a point. The "normal" ranges for the TSH levels can vary from person to person. You want to make sure it's normal for you, not just what the lab or doc thinks is normal. If you find that you are still feeling all the classic symptoms you may want to talk more with your doc.
Browse around the posts here, you will probably learn more than you ever wanted to know about hypothyroid! LOL!! But that knowledge is empowering!!!
We're glad you are here!
