Hi!

I just got diagnosed with hyperthyroid in July. My doctor put me on synthroid and now my levels in September were 2.5. The week after I got my test results back was the worse week I have had and when I went to talk to my doctor and told him that I still had my symptoms and was very irritable and was crying alot for no reason he said that it wasnt my thyroid and he put me on antidepressants. I have been on them for almost a month and i still feel like I have PMS all the time. Atleast the crying and being overwhelmed it better. Should I go to an endocrinologist? Could he be right and I am just depressed. Life is good so I dont feel like I am depressed in that way. I just have no energy and feel like my hormones are out of whack. I just dont know what to do. Thanks for listening.

Hi Nancy,

I'm wondering if you are hypothyroid instead of hyperthyroid since your doctor put you on synthroid.

You are right I am hypothyroid. I not only have that but I can't type either.

I do know of an endocrinologist that i think I can see. And no I dont think my doctor knows that much about thyroids. He didn't want to discuss other medications for me to try or anything. Said I was depressed even though I am still moody, and my arms still itch, I am still very bloated, not much labido, and my hair is still falling out. Well I will give it a few more weeks and talk to him again when I go in to see if the antidepressants are working. Just wish this was easier to deal with.

Thanks

Nancy

Hi Nancy - I would go see the endocrinologist and seek help in getting off the antidepressants until you know what you're dealing with. Too often, doctors mistake hypothyroid symptoms like depression with real clinical depression. It's an easy fix for them and keeps them from having to actually ask questions like, "Do you have any reason to be depressed?" LOL! So my guess is that it is your thyroid and you should follow your instinct here and see an endo. I hope that helps and let us know what you decide to do! Cathy :)

I think your best bet is to find an endocrinologist!
