I just don't get it ...

OK, so my family doc won't work with my thyroid meds to try to help me feel better BUT she did authorize a refill of sleep meds that she did not originally prescribe and has NO knowledge why the ENT put me on them in the first place. I called the pharmacy so they could get the refill from my ENT; he was out of the office so the pharmacist called my family doc. She gave the OK. Wouldn't you think she would contact me for two reasons, first to find out WHY I was on sleep meds in the first place, and second to see if perhaps part of my sleeping problems just might be related to my thyroid?

It did reinforce in my mind that my switching family docs is definitely a move I need to make!

I've been feeling really lousy this week. I'm having a spinal tap done on the 19th to try to find the cause of the PT (which is the reason for the sleep meds). But the PT has gotten progressively worse and I have a hard time putting one foot in front of the other. Of course, the fact that I believe my thyroid meds need to be increased (super dry skin, weight gain, constipation, the list goes on and on) leads me to believe that the PT isn't the entire problem but just adds to the exhaustion.

Oh, well ... at least I know that when I feel miserable and something or the other hurts, I'm still alive!! LOL! Hope everyone is having a better week than I am!

Thanks for listening to my ramblings!

Hi Sue - "Oh, well ... at least I know that when I feel miserable and something or the other hurts, I'm still alive!! LOL!"

Well that's pretty positive thinking!! LOL! My husband and I went through very hard times years ago and we used to say pretty much the same things! LOL!

What does PT mean? Do you have an appointment with a new doctor soon? It sounds like that will really help you. Cathy :)

Hi Cathy!

My appointment is the 20th, the day after my spinal tap.

PT is pulsatile tinnitus, a condition where I hear my pulse in my ears ... all the time. It has been occuring for about 6 months now and the ENT and now the neurologist are trying to determine the cause by ruling things like brain tumors, aneurysms, etc. The spinal tap is to determine if I have a condition called benign intracranial hypertension (of which the PT would be a result) where too much spinal fluid has accumulated around my brain. The good news is that it is not only treatable but possibly curable.

I've been trying to function with 2-3 hours of sleep a night because the pulsing keeps me awake. That's the reason for the sleep meds. I take them 2 nights on, 2 nights off so I don't get too dependent on them. It's really sad when I get so excited through the day when I know I get to take a sleeping pill at night - LOL!!! And that's about all I'm getting excited about these days!!!

I do try to keep a positive outlook even though I have been through so many tests and seen so many doctors with no relief yet. As my ENT told me though ... I'm not crazy but it is all in my head!!!

Have a great evening & thanks for your reply!

Hugs,

Sue
