Hello everyone,

I have been reading thru some of your posts, and I know many of you have been where I am now. Please be patient with me while I panic and learn. My story....While I have had my thyroid tested a couple of times in the past for fatigue, high heart rate, and weight loss, it was always normal. Well a week ago, I discovered a goiter. The sides of my neck is swollen. Since then, my blood pressure has gone up (it is officially high now, but before it was the low side of normal). I can feel my blood pressure pound in my neck and eyes when it gets high. A couple of days ago, my goiter grew, and now the whole gland is swollen , but the left side more so. I finnally got an appt with my obgyn on Fri. My obgyn ordered a thyroid panel. (I don't have a PCP.) With any luck I will have the results on MOnday. In the mean time, we are anticipating it will be high. I have no insurance, and no money. Dh is in school full time and took the semester off from work, and I am SAHM. (He graduates in the Spring, but will be able to work b/c he will only be taking one easy class). We have enough money to get him through school but that's it.

As you can guess, I am scared enough. Now today, I got my period for the first time since January! UGH! This is my question. I have been on Depo for almost 2 years. Hence the no periods. I am not supposed to get a period. Now I am worried, could this mean I am metabolizing the hormone too fast? I am not due for my next shot until November. The last thing we need at the moment is for me to get pregnant. I mean, I would love another baby, but just not now. I did some research, but I can't find anything. I will ask my dr when she calls with the results, but I am worried enough about that and I could use some peace of mind. I would appreciate any info, ideas, experience, hugs, CHOCOLATE ;-) etc.

thanks,

Suzie

Hi! I honestly dont know much about the birth control and thyroid. I am hyperthyroid/Graves. I developed mine after having my last baby and I had my tubes tied. I never took birth control along with my thyroid troubles! But I did have irregular periods, it seems one every 3 months or so, which I can't say I mind! :-)

I would look into get state health insurance or something of the sort. You should be able to get it if neither of you are working. I know in NY they have a health plan that isn't so social services, it's for people who are income qualified. I would look into it. Especially if you are hyperthyroid or any thyroid problems. You will probably need to go to an Endocrinologist or someone who specializes with thyroid problems, which you know will cost a lot of money. My endo saw me for about 15 mins and it was $250! Plus you will have to probably take some meds and run more tests.... depending of course on what treatments you choose!!!

Good luck!
