I was looking at info for different diets for IBS and kidney stones. Do you know what type of kidney stone you had. From what I was reading, the stone forms because of a concentration of substances in your kidney and/or because of a lack of fluids in your system. So if you were eating a lot of dairy, your stone may have been a calcium stone. On the other hand, other substances cause different types of stones. And ... drinking enough water every day appears to be the key to eliminating their manufacture in the first place. So I think the type of stone you had is a key to what you need to avoid in your diet. But they don't talk about eliminating foods altogether - just cutting down on some.

And here's an interesting article I found on diet and IBS. How long has it been since you've felt symptoms from this? I'm sure that with some research, you - or we! - can put together a plan that you can live with. I don't think it has to be as drastic as your doctors made it sound to you!! What do you think? Hope you had a nice birthday! Cathy :)

Since I passed the stones before the surgery all they had to go on was a 24 hour urine catch. They said to eat normally and so I did. The levels that were high wer the calcium and the protien acid. Since I am not a big dairy eater and I don't eat too much beef or pork so he thought it was a little odd. He backtracked and said that I could have one dairy serving a day and fish and chicken for protien. He wants me to stay away form beef and maybe pork. He did check my parathyroid and ran an entire metabolic panel. Those were normal. I also drink enough water and that is very important since I have duplicated kidneys.

I also got my results from the tsh last week and it is 1.73. I feel better and realized yesterday that my hair and skin were both kind of oily. For me that's normal. I have been more awake lately and generally feel better. I also switched last month from the generic to the brand name. My migraines are back to one per month along with my one per month big zit. (A nice little warning system that my period will be here in two days)

As for the IBS, I have been symptom free several times. It seems to come and go depending on what I eat. But usually I do not have set patterns and can go 3-5 days without having a movement for a while and then it changes to the loose. I have never had the diahrea type, it just gets pasty and unformed and then you go all the time. Broccoli, cabbage and those types of veggies set it off along with the gas and bloating, burping and passing wind. On the bright side, I can now belch on command and the kids think that's cool. I have one diverticulum and so I am not supposed to have seeds of any kind since they make it worse. I have a bizarre body I guess. O well!

No, no ... it actually sounds like you're doing pretty well. I was thinking about it last night and I remember before I was diagnosed and taking meds that I had all kinds of digestive problems, especially during the two weeks before my period. And they've all cleared. (I shouldn't really say that out loud - or in print - since things have a funny way of happening when you say they don't anymore!) So it actually sounds like you're in pretty good shape!! I know it's hard to live with all the restrictions but I guess it's better than having all the other complications. Cathy :)
