Hi! I'm hypothyroid and every once in awhile, I have trouble breathing. I feel like I can't take in a deep breath. Does anyone else have this problem? Thsi also contributes to the anxiety cause by the hypo. Thyroid problems can really mess you up!!

I also have that problem! A doctor said I have asthma and gave me some inhalers which don't really help much....do you feel like your insides are taking up all the space - there isn't enough room for your organs? I know that sounds completely nuts, but that's the way I feel sometimes - not only is my chest tight and I can't get a good deep breath, but everything just feels too big inside.....what meds do you take? I'd like to keep this discussion going and maybe get to the bottom of this - I thought I was the only person who felt like that!

YES!!! I know eactly what you;re talking about!! I'm taking Levothyroxine .05. It's a very low dose cause my thyroid isn't that bad, but the symptoms hit me hard.

I know what you mean about no chest space. It feels like my lungs have no room to expand. Sometimes it feels like i'm not even breathing in any air and I try to take in a some deep breaths.

It's really good to know other people have the same problem, I mean I'm sorry you have to suffer with this too. It's just comforting to know you're not crazy!

I think it's always good to know you're not crazy!! :) I used to have that problem and sometimes will still get short of breath. That feeling that you're "full", I always felt like it was a bloated-type of feeling. Now that my tsh is normal, I odn't feel that anymore - and it's a big relief because that was a horrible feeling. I have felt that way for YEARS and haven't noticed it since I started taking my synhroid. I always thought I was kind of nuts--even in high school I felt that way--when I wasn't anxious at all. I used to think it was related to the hot, humid weather, but then I noticed it last fall. Anyway, I think it is mostly gone, now.

Thank you so much for your replies!! Cathy, I know what you mean about that full feeling, icky. I'm hoping this goes away soon. At least before Thanksgiving...lol.

It's comforting to know that this might go away eventually - I have been taking Levothroid and Cytomel for a number of years (my thyroid problem was diagnosed in 1999) and still have that "full, icky" feeling - I'm hoping that someday it will be gone. For now, it's good for me know that I'm not the only person that feels this way - honestly, my docs look at me like I'm nuts when I try to describe this....

I would say to give the new meds a week or so - unless your heart/pulse rate becomes alarming, of course. It sounds like the dose might be a little high, but I'd give it a chance. I have had no problem taking the synthetics, but I have heard that they don't work for everyone - but that percentage is EXTREMELY low from what I understand...goodluck!
