I'm in the midst of waiting for a referral to an endocrinologist (should get it any day) but had some questions in the meantime. I just had a baby 4 months ago and had my blood tested last month to check my thyroid since I had some problems after my daughter was born (almost 4 years ago). After my daughter was born I was hypothyroid but it resolved on its own without treatment - took about a year for my TSH to return to normal. I had it checked during this past PG as well and my TSH was 1.6.
My current TSH is zero. Absolutely none! T3 and T4 are normal but my TSH is zero. I had it retested again last week with the same results.
I just read one of the other posts about hives. I've had a horrible case since my son was born and had the same reaction after my daughter was born. I had chalked it up to BF'ing since it went away after I stopped with my daughter. NOw I"m wondering.
I don't want to write a novel (LOL!) but I wonder if I've had thyroid problems for longer than just the postpartum periods. While I was trying to get PG with my daughter it took 10 months and only happened after I suddenly gained 15 pounds in a one month period (no eating changes during this time and I jogged 3 miles per day and walked an additional 3 5 times per week). It took us 18 months to conceive my son and only happened the month I did the South Beach diet and lost 5 pounds. I just feel like something is not quite right with me although perhaps its all unrelated. I plan on asking the endocrinologist when I see them.
Anyway, I guess my question is..does anyone have experience with normal T3 and T4 but abnormal TSH?
THanks!!!
Val

I'm a newbie, too and the one with hives. Interestingly enough, mine started while I was weaning my daughter. There definitely must be some connection between all of the pregnancy hormones and thyroid hormones. While I was BF'ing my daughter, my TSH dropped to 0.13. My doctor took me off thyroid medication and it skyrocketed back up. Unfortunately, he did not test my T3 and T4 levels at that time. I've got a new doctor, now.
I'm seriously thinking about seeing an endo - I can go without a referral. I'm getting tired of the rollercoaster ride. I had a great endo in Phoenix, but we recently moved to Michigan and we are still getting situated with doctors.

I look back and wonder if I had thyroiditis earlier with my 1st daughter. I remember the crazy mood swings i had, I was a completely different person then. But associated it with having a new baby etc.
What exactly were you t3 and t4 levels? Sometimes if they are high or low end of the range it will contribute to symptoms. Just b/c they are within range doesn't make it normal for your body!!
There is postpartum thyroiditis. Which usually you start off hyper, then become hypothyroid. That condition can last a long time, even a year or more! Just means you are at higher risk for thyroid problems later in life!! That condition usually doesn't rear it's ugly head until a few months postpartum.
