Hello all. I have been hypo and on Synthroid .75 for about 2 years now.

I had my yearly labs in January, here are the results

T3 uptake 32

t4 total 9.7

Free t4 index 3.1

TSH 1.15

More recently, in September, I have been feeling MISERABLE (fatigue, dizziness, cold, panic attacks, depression, weight problems, basically all the textbook thyroid symptoms)

Here are my test results

t3 uptake 31

t4 total 8.8

free t4 index 2.7

tsh 4.27

Anyone?? I know the TSH is high, doc says it's "normal" and refuses to up my meds. What about the other stuff?? I am seeing an endo for the first time on Friday. Thanks for any input!

Michele from PA

Any comments???

Geez---

I really wonder when more doctors will 'get it' about treating the symptoms and not the labs!

However, my guess is that the endo will agree to increase your dose. My endo uses the old normal range, but does at least follow the guideline that the goal of supplementation should be a TSH between .3 and 3. He still refuses to consider symptoms, however.

Good luck,

Dee.

Hi Michelle - your doctor may think your TSH level is normal according to lab ranges but 1) He might pay more attention to how you FEEL and would realize that your thyroid is a problem and 2) He might know that a true "normal" thyroid's TSH level is between 1.0 and 2.0 and 3) He might have also learned that new lab ranges put the uper limit at 3.0, not 5.5. I wouldn't return to that doctor!! And I hope that your new endo is willing to treat you. Let us know what happens. Cathy :)

Hi..

Looks as though your doctor used old out dated tests. The ones he should be balancing your deficient thyroid with are the FreeT4 and FreeT3 that were develpoed in the late 1980's. Believe me, I know, some "so called Dr's" still think in the old school. My 13 yr old daughter has hashimoto's as well as myself. I'm really having a time getting her treated properly. There's only one ped enco in our area, and we had to wait over 2 mo. to get in and she's a TSH worshiper. So, will take her to my doc who's bible are the FT4 and FT3 labs. My daughters Free t's are both at the lowest normal and has several symptoms, but Enco won't treat her, Enco says she'll go hyper. She has swelling around her eyes and her face is puffy, horrible periods, fatigued,(she couldn't handle playing soccer this year)can handly keep up at school, irritable, cries, and depressed, plus can't stand bright light. As, you can imagine, the enco's answer is to give her anti-D's. I'm so disappointed in the medical professionals right now that I could scream. I hope you will get the right help. You'll probably need to find another doctor. We have to educate ourselves and take charge of our own health,as no one else will. Good luck.
