Any here with a child born CH

I have a 3yr old girl born Congenital hypothyroid. Though treated earl she has development delay in speech, her gross motor (such as climbing, jumping, ect.), and her memory seems to be poor.

At birth her TSH was 370 and during treatment her TSH was up and down, from 10 - 36 wich seem high to me from what I have read.

I was told she has mild autism but I think its just a label they gave her due to some of her behaviors. She only reflects a few of the autisim behaviors. Mostly she is very loving, very gentle, and very sweet. She just turned 3 and can draw faces w/hair on the head and all the facial features in the right places and she puts feet and arms coming out the head. She also can do puzzles very well. All signs she is very smart but she talks like a 2 yr old, most two word sentences that hardly make sense. She says Mommy over and over a lot. Walks stiff and isn't coordinated. She seems to have low muscle tone. She also forgets or seems to space out.

I am wondering how many parents w/CH children have mental development issues?

One of my kids is a lot like you described and he also is very gifted, talented artist, sweet, loving, and has aspergers. Aspergers is considered autism but the only way it even relates is that the child has social skills that are behind. Since your daughter is only three, with social skills intervention she may be able to catch up. There are so many types of autism out there and people usually only think of the character in rain man. Have you ever wondered about the scientist or doctor who is absolutely brilliant but seems so shy? They say the smarter you are, the more quirks you have. It balances you out. Work on social skills and forget about the bad stuff for a while.

That's very caring advice, Mary. I hope she saw it! Cathy
