help!!!! being in the medical profession I thought I would know when something was wrong but I am 45 and just assumed my symptoms of missed periods, low sex drive, sweats, extreme fatigue and weight gain were just due to perimenopause or hectic lifestyle with a 3year old. The female PCP I work for suggested we do blood tests and my TSH came back at 6.19. Not too bad but started me on 30 mg Armour and two weeks later increased it to 45 mg. I am still feeling really bad and getting even more depressed especially since I look lousy and cant lose weight. Now I am getting pain across mid back like kidney pain. Anyone else get that? I also started on One a Day Weight Smar along withPosture D.

I dont know if this is too much calcium by my PCP says no!

Help any ideas???

Thanks, Carol

Hi:

First of all your TSH is pretty high given that most people who are symptom free have a tsh between 0.3-3.0; and it takes a while for your system to get balanced. I've been waiting 8 months to find the right supplement and dose.

Having said that: Have you had your PTH (parathyroid hormone) checked? There are a lot of crossover symtpoms from hypothyroid with hyperparathyroid, a condition that elevates calcium in the blood. It's not related to hypothyroid, but can cause kidney stones, which is why I mention it...

The best of luck!

I'm sorry you are feeling so poorly...but many of us here understand and either have been there or are there now. So come here and vent as often as you need to and try not to "blame" yourself for anything, all you can do is try to make the best of it all now!

One thing I did want to mention, if you are taking any kind of calcium supplements, you should wait at least 4 hours after you take your thyroid medication to take the supplement. The calcium supplement can inhibit the absorption of the thyroid medication and will make it not work as well.

I hope you feel better soon.

Great advice, dazed. Thanks!! (You know, you always have so much to contribute and "dazed" just doesn't seem fitting for you!) Cathy :)

Thank YOU Cathy! I hope you realize that you are very inspirational to many of us on this board, including me. I don't know how you do it, but I appreciate it all.

Denise

p.s. the screen name was created over two years ago with my first post to one of the pet boards, my dog was very sick and that's exactly how I felt. Now, it seems to fit more often than not! LOL!

Thanks, Denise! I know a lot of people created names a long time ago and they just don't fit anymore. I wasn't even creative enough to do that. LOL!! Cathy :)
