Does anyone else suffer from anxiety and hypothyroid? I am currently on levoxyl and when I take my med it makes me more anxious and my pdr puts me on anxiety meds and i get more panicky, should I just wait it out and let the meds work or should I try something else? Any suggestions would be great.

PLEASE HELP VERY CONFUSED

I get the same way. I haven't taken any anxiety meds, but I have a feeling it would just make it worse. I went off my meds for a while, so the anxiety has been pretty bad. But, when I was first diagnosed and stayed on my medicine, I noticed that it finally went away after about 6 months. I know how you're feeling. Let us know how it goes!

i have been on my thyroid med for over a year and it just seems to get worse, the dr is treating the labs and not my symptoms and if he does it is just anxiety meds. And all they do is make me more anxious than before. I get the side effects so bad that I have to stop taking them, I started the cymbalta and it made me more anxious, and the only real side effect to that is nausea, lol how about that? So I was thinking one of the symptoms for hypo is anxiety so maybe I don't have the right med or not high enough. My labs came back and it was at a 3. And the optimal range is 0-3. But honestly I feel like crap.

Hi - Have you talked to your doctor about taking Armour thyroid or decreasing your Levoxyl? It sounds like one or the other would be the best option for you. I think your anxiety is related to the level of medication, not necessarily the hypo. What do you think? Cathy :)

i honestly think that my med is wrong because no matter what dose he puts me on the anxiety is still there, I have hashimotos and he just says that with hashimotos I am going to go up and down but no matter what I feel like crap, so maybe he will change my med, I have an appt monday at 8 am so I will post what he tells me from there. But he said that he doesn't want to put me on armour. My T4s are in normal range. Hopefully he does something quick because I have two small children that I am at home with all day and they need my attention, and can't be sleeping or in bed all the time.

Thanks for the input,

Amy

another thing is that the dr treats my labs and not my symptoms. I think I am going to ask him for a referral to an endo, becuase an endo is trained in thyroid and a pcp is trained in just reg medincine. Did you get that??? Doesn't sound right, but hopefully you will figure it out, your a smart lady

I wouldn't be so sure an endo will be any better!!

My endo flat out told me he treats the numbers.

I think April has a point. If this doc will listen to you, then keep him. If the new one listens, then go with that one!! Perhaps you're having trouble converting T4 to T3, which is the more usuable of the two hormones. I think going to an endo is probably the best option for you, actually. Do you know of anyone good in your area? Sometimes if you ask around, you'll find that people know of someone good. Cathy :)

no there are only 2 endos in my area, and they both want referrals from my pcp and he doesn't want to send me to an endo. I have an appt monday so maybe I can persuade him to giving me a referral :) Keep your fingers crossed!!!!!

Thanks for the great input!!!
