My eyes.

Hi guys!  I have ANOTHER question.

I notice my eyesight has been getting worse. I mean within the last few weeks.   I feel like my eyes are starting to cross- they aren't...but my vision feels like that.  Or like when you wake up in the morning- everything is kinda hazy..it's hard to focus on things.   Does this have to do with my thyroid? My eyes are not bulging or anything like that, no swelling aorund my eyes.  But my vision is starting to bother me. I wore glasses for tv or reading but that was it.  I have hyper/Graves.  I also want to add that my eyes feel "tired" a lot.   Like my body doesn't feel tired but my eyes just want to close.  :-)

Any info - I would greatly appreciate.  Thanks everyone for putting up with my questions!

Hi April,

It's ironic that you asked this question...I, too, have noticed a change (for the worse) in my eyesight, recently.

I've always had very good vision, but I noticed lately that it blurs. Particularly when trying to read things in the distance, like road signs.

It comes and goes, so I hadn't been too concerned. Perhaps I should have it checked out!

Hi April - since eye disease is commone with thyroid conditions, here's an article that looks pretty comprehensive: http://thyroid.about.com/cs/relatedconditions/a/eyedisease.htm

You can read through this and see if it might be related to your thyroid or if it's plain, old vision problems!! Cathy :)

This is weird! I've been having the same problem with my eyes! I mentioned it to the endocrinologist when I saw him last week. He said as long as he was sending me for lab work anyway, he was ordering a blood test to screen for diabetes, since sometimes one of the early symptoms of that is blurred vision. He also said I should see an opthalmologist since apparently Graves' disease increases the likelihood of glaucoma. I asked him what vision problems the hyperthyroidism eye swelling causes, and he said usually double vision.

I just had the blood drawn Saturday and I don't have the results back yet. I'm a little nervous. I'm seeing the opthalmologist next Monday.
