Hyperthyroid and hair still falling out

Hi, I am new here. I came looking for answers that I have been unable to find anywhere that makes me feel any better. I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism in July of this year and I am being treated with PTU and it is working (according to the endo and the test results). My problem is this...my hair was falling out pretty bad before I was diagnosed but it had been doing it for years so I was used to it, when my endo started treating me with a high dosage of PTU it stopped falling out, which was great. He has now lowered my dosage because it is working and NOW my hair is falling out again, I even seem to have a receding hair line and it is looking bad. He is telling me that it could be something other than my thyroid but it just seems that it is an awful big coincidence that it stopped falling out when I was on a higher dosage of PTU and it started back when it was lowered. I am 33 years old and I really don't want to lose all my hair. I have always had a head full of hair, very thick. So now I am wondering, does anyone know if this is a side affect of the PTU? I am trying to avoid the radiation because I have a 4 year old that I really don't want to be away from for 5 days to be on the safe side, besides the fact that it would be extremely difficult. If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it, I am running out of places I know to check up on it. Thanks, Tonya
