Vitiligo

Rats!
Another thing!
I've been checking myself for vitiligo since I was 12 and my mother started showing signs of it (she had Grave's and later Hash), and today I found them: white spots on my arm... right where mom's started! I'm 35 and I feel like I'm falling apart. In the last year I've had appendicitis, the hypo diagnosis, possibly hyperparathyroid, and now this!
Does anyone with Grave's or Hash have vitiligo? Are there treatments that WORK? I guess I'll go surfing for info on the net, but let me know if you have dealt with this.
Thanks,
Dee.

Hey - how was your endo appointment??? Wasn't that today?
Hope it helps. Cathy :)
That is a helpful site. It looks like there are a few more suggested treatments than when my mom went through it.
I wish I knew why all my autoimmune problems are popping up at the same time. That site gave me a clue, though... it is suggested that a stressful event can trigger the vitiligo.... made me wonder if the appendicitis last Feb. triggered the onset...
Now I'm going to take this info to my endo and see which treatments will be OK and won't interfere with the thyroid treatment.
Thanks again,
Have a good weekend!
Dee.
I'm now confused and a little scared. I found white spots on my 3-year-old daughter's arms. I've made an appointment with her pediatrician for next Wed., and I have joined a vitiligo forum... in the meantime, though, I'm sort of hoping that it's something else. I've done some searching, and can't imagine what it can be (other than vitiligo). If it is, then I'm definately having him test her thyroid because I've learned from the autoimmune sites that autoimmune disorders rarely come to the party without a friend.
I am trying not to "go there," and my mom says maybe she and I both just have some type of skin fungus (?).
I'll try not to obsess and worry, but, well, oh dear, it's much worse to think of my daughter having hashi than having it myself. (Cathy, I know you understand that one!)

The pediatrician appt is tomorrow, but I talked to my Dad tonight, and he says he's had something similar off and on for years... not vitiligo, but some sort of fungal infection. If the ped. agrees, I'll never be so happy to hear that we have a fungus as that! LOL!
