Hello, ladies! I am a big fan of these Boards--I'm a cl on the Infertility Info and Support Board! It's amazing to me how much women know and how wonderful everyone is to each other. So.....onto my story.
I am 9 months postpartum (after having my miracle InVitro baby girl) and went to the dr because I was dizzy, tired and nauseous. They did a bunch of b/w and all that came back was a low thyroid. The number was .12 and they say the range is between .4-.52 for my age range (i'm 31). Here's my question, though. The dr (a GP) said that they jsut wanted me to re-test in another month and see if it changes. I guess I'm not really wanting to necesaarily take drugs for it but I don't really want to feel like this any longer.
So I suppose I'm asking for your advice. Does that level seem low enough to do something about? SHould I go see a specialist and ask them (would that be an endocrinologist?).
Just to throw more on the pile, DH and I are trying for another baby but going au natural. I am tkaing Metformin for insulin resistance. It can straighten out your hormones enough to amke you O but it has not worked for me. I am feeling really badly so I am going back on BCP's (just started them 3 days ago) so I am hoping that will make me feel better, too...
I hope that explains things without getting too long-winded. If you ladies have any insight, I sure would appreciate it!
Thanks so very much and take care,
Sharon

Hi Sharon,
Welcome!
What immediately comes to mind for me is that possibly your pregnancy triggered your thyroid problems.
Hi! We have so much in common! First of all I also had my first child thru ivf/icsi-a beautiful boy who is now 6, I did clomid for several months & unfortunately had an ectopic then did several years of IUI w/injectables; I was lucky my IVF worked on the first try-I have a second son who is 3-he was conceived naturally-2mos. before we were planning on doing IVF again (we never prevented it after having our first son). I have PCOS and I am hypothyroid; as far as I am concerned they seem to go hand in hand-they always suspected I had hypothyroid (my mom does too-it is hereditary if you didn't already know that) but every time they tested me it came out in the normal range-I was just checked this summer after not having been checked for several years-& I was borderline-I did some research & found that the levels have actually been lowered for what is considered hypothyroid & I am now on synthroid. Anyways-as for your question-I assume you are seeing an endocrinologist already if you are doing IVF again-you definantly need to talk to them about it & see what they think-or you could go to another endocrinologist who specifically specializes in thyroid disorders. If you weren't trying to get pregnant again I would say wait the month & retest because hormones do change after pregnancy but being that you are trying you really need to get it under control. I don't know if any of this helps you but congrats on your baby girl & on another healthy pregnancy!

Thanks so much, ladies!
