A question re my upcoming bloodwork...

I was told that I most likely have Hashimotos (along with diabetes) and while my TSH isn't at a level for medication, we will be watching it. I go back to the doctor in late January and he gave me a lab slip to do the week prior. What it's calling for is: CMP, Lipid Panel, urine (microalbumin/creat) and TPO AB/TSH. What I'm wondering is if the TPO AB/TSH is what's going to be looking at the antibodies to check for Hashimotos? And with the TSH levels being different than what is listed by most labs - if the TPO AB is the antibody (which it SEEMS logically like it would be) what numbers are considered "normal" range and what indicates Hashimotos?
Thanks in advance... I'm still trying to understand all of this!!
Jill

I dont know what the levels are for antibodies.
Ok - here's a link: http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:Y2GaN3Opnc4J:www.dpcweb.com/package_inserts/immulite_2000/pdfs/Thyroid%2520Function/l2kto-14.pdf+TPO+AB+ranges&hl=en
If you look on pages 3 and 4, you'll see the ranges for normal: less than 35 is considered normal but it makes an important point that normal can be different for each individual.
Also keep in mind that your actual lab results will have their own range so it may something a little different than 35. I don't have my own results handy or I'd check them to see what my lab uses. In any case, if those antibodies are elevated, it means that you have hashimoto's but are not necessarily hypothyroid - as you can see with your normal TSH results. I hope this helps. You're going to need to ask for a hard copy of the results, if I haven't said that already!! Then you can see the lab ranges and all the other information. Does this helps? Cathy :)
