So I finally got my lab work from my GP, and my TSH is 1.5 and his reference numbers are 0.4-4.7, does this seem right? If so I'll drop this whole thing and try to go about my health a different way... if any of you think I should still consider getting a second opinion from an endo I'll definitely fight for that. Also, thyroid problems do run in my family, my grandmother had her thyroid removed several years ago. Help!

Hi again!

I'm not an expert on the numbers, but I think your doctor is right that you are in the normal range for the TSH number even if his range is a bit out of date (the high end should be about 3 instead of 4.7).

HOWEVER! That doesn't mean there isn't a thyroid problem for you. There are lots of things with the thyroid and one number doesn't necessarily tell the whole story. If I were you, I would try to get that second opinion from an endo. There's more to this thyroid thing than just the TSH level...your T3, T4, and a few other numbers should also be checked. I would think especially with the family history.

If nothing else, it's not going to hurt anything to get another opinion.

I hope someone else with more knowledge on the "numbers" responds to you...I'm sorry I seem to be going through a "foggy" phase myself and I'm lucky to remember my name! LOL!!
