Need advice...

Here's my situation-- was diagnosed with Graves about 3 years ago, had RAI and am now hypothyroid and I'm currently taking 75 mcg. Levoxyl. Anyway right now I'm 3 1/2 months postpartum and I feel hyperthyroid. Bloodwork at 6 weeks postpartum and two weeks came back ok. In fact, the labs from 2 weeks ago show that I could stand to have my Levoxyl raised. The thing is that my resting pulse is high (in the 80's) and I feel like I did before I found out I had Graves (some heat intolerance and I feel my heart beating). I went to my endo today and she was satisfied that my bloodwork from two weeks ago means it's not my thyroid (another doctor ordered the last test) although she did note that my resting pulse was 88.

Should I have my thyroid tested again? (I don't know what the values are.) I was on antibiotics and Diflucan when I had my thyroid tested the last time - could those meds have any effect?

I'm really at a loss at what to do. None of my doctor's seem all that concerned with my symptoms but I feel awful!

Thanks!

Hi Maria - it is normal to have your hormones fluctuate pretty wildly after childbirth, for as long as 6 months to a year before everything settles back to normal. And post partum thyroid conditions are also very common. You shouldn't ignore your symptoms ... what you are feeling is real. No one can know that better than you. Why don't you try your ob/gyn? They are oftne very familiar with thyroid conditions, especially after childbirth. Tell her your history if she doesn't know it already and see if she will be willing to test you again.

The last thing you'll want to do is have your Levoxyl raised when you are already feeling hyper!!! So perhaps you can get a postponement on that. Can you get your actual numbers from your tests? Come back and post them for us if you can and we'll see what's happening there. ok? What do you think about trying your ob/gyn? Cathy :)
